چکیده

Packet error in the IEEE 802.11 network is one source of performance degradation and its variability. Most of the previous works study how collision avoidance and hidden terminals affect the IEEE 802.11 performance metrics, such as probability of a collision and saturation throughput. In this paper we focus on the effect of packet errors on capacity and variability of the IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol. We develop a new analytical model, called -Model, by extending the existing model (Tay and Chua’s model) to incorporate packet error probability . With -Model, we successfully analyze capacity and variability of the IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol. The variability analysis shows that increasing packet error probability by has more effect on saturation throughput than adding stations, where is the minimum contention window size. We also show the numerical validation of -Model with the IEEE 802.11 MAClevel simulator.

History Based Contention Window Control in IEEE 802.11 Mac Protocol in Error Prone Channel

Problem statement: IEEE 802.11 Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol is one of the most implemented protocols in this network. The IEEE 802.11 controls the access to the share wireless channel within competing stations. The IEEE 802.11 DCF doubles the Contention Window (CW) size for decreasing the collision within contending stations and to improve the network performances but it is not good for...

A highly reliable broadcast scheme for IEEE 802.11 multi-hop ad hoc networks

In wired networks, the broadcast data packets can be easily and safely delivered to destinations. Nevertheless, it is a big challenge to transfer the broadcast frames over the IEEE 802.11 based multi-hop ad hoc wireless networks due to the high bit error rate, the high collision probability, and the lake of acknowledgement (ACK). Unfortunately, most of routing protocols need the broadcast funct...

IEEE 802.11 WLANs: Performance analysis in presence of bit errors

IEEE 802.11 is worldwide established and the most used protocol for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). As the assumption of an error-free channel is not always true in a realistic environment, we extent a mathematical model previously presented in the literature that calculates IEEE 802.11 DCF performance to take into account transmission errors for the IEEE 802.11a protocol. Our results tak...

Performance Study of IEEE 802.11b Wireless LAN under High Traffic Conditions

The IEEE 802.11b medium access control (MAC) protocol is gaining widespread popularity as a layer-2 protocol for wireless local area networks (WLANs). A good MAC protocol for WLANs should provide an efficient mechanism to share a limited wireless channel bandwidth, together with high bandwidth utilization and fairness in serving all stations. In this paper we study the performance of IEEE 802.1...
